Molly Shelestak
Engineer Whisperer & Technical Product Leader
20+ years building scalable, data-powered platforms and leading teams that deliver real results.
Companies I've worked with
I translate complex engineering challenges into measurable business outcomes—turning technical debt into savings, platform chaos into scalable systems, and cross-functional friction into multi-million dollar wins.
My Story
I grew up in Mercer, Pennsylvania—a small town that gave me big curiosity and a habit of figuring things out the hard way. I studied computer engineering at the University of Florida, then started my career at Siemens PLM Software as an implementation engineer building data extraction and custom integrations for major ships manufacturers like Northrop Grumman and Electric Boat. It was the kind of work where you learn fast: the data is never clean, the edge cases are real, and the customer doesn't care why it's hard—they just need it to work. They also have no idea what they actually want, so I learned never to ask that question directly or I would end up building the wrong thing.
A few years later, I moved to California for my dream job at Google. At Google, I worked on the DoubleClick advertising platforms and sat at the intersection of engineering, product, and the customer. I partnered directly with some of the world's largest agencies and holding companies—including Vivaki and Omnicom—to help shape their digital marketing strategy across the DoubleClick suite.
That role is where I truly learned translation as a craft. I had to take the outcome the customer was trying to achieve, map it to what our products needed to do to make that outcome possible, and then turn it into requirements that product and engineering could actually build—clear, scoped, and sequenced. But translation wasn't enough. I also had to articulate the business impact so the work got prioritized at the right time, because if we missed the window, the customer plan—and the relationship—could unravel.
All of this happened while managing expectations in three directions at once: with the customer, with product and engineering, and with my own leadership team. It taught me how to juggle—and how to do it fast. That's the foundation of the "engineer whisperer" skill: aligning outcomes, constraints, and timing so teams ship and customers win. Over time, that became my operating system: define the problem precisely, measure reality, surface the tradeoffs, and make a decision that holds up under pressure.
That's where the "engineer whisperer" reputation was built—not as a personality trait, but as a learned skill. I became the person teams pulled in when the platform was the bottleneck, the alignment was breaking down, and the chaos was getting expensive.
From there, I kept choosing roles where the hard parts mattered: platform and data product work at Neustar, Rentlytics, SoftBank Robotics, and EasyPost. In 2021, I took an unusual step at Andela—moving from Senior Platform Product Manager into a Platform Engineering Manager role—because rebooting a platform sometimes requires owning both the roadmap and the realities of execution.
Over the last four years, in principal product roles at Heap and now Contentsquare, I've led data and analytics platform initiatives with measurable impact—including $2M in annual cost reduction at Heap—by turning engineering chaos into a shippable plan and outcomes leadership can see.
Beyond the Day Job
Outside of the "day jobs," I've always needed creative outlets. In 2017, I helped build Phoenicopterus Rex—a 40-foot tall flamingo sculpture for Burning Man. We built it in just 4 months, start to finish. All bubblegum pink, fiberglass and steel, it's a physical manifestation of Americana pop-kitsch meets modern industry: making the familiar absurd and speaking to the ambiguity of "reverence and ridicule."
In 2022, my best friend from college, David Runyon, and I launched Diversified Fun—our studio for building products we wish existed. We also created Diversified.fun, a playground of quirky free tools like instant alt-text generators and headline makers. It's our space to experiment fast, ship weird ideas, and share them with anyone who wants to play.
In 2023, David, photographer/filmmaker Artem Shestakov, and I started Canwell Media—a media company blending tech, storytelling, and visuals that led us into film. We ended up making The Perfect Shot: Antarctica (2023), where I stepped into the role of executive producer.
In 2024, I co-founded Outli.ne—a tool to turn your Instagram feed into a swipeable portfolio. In 2025, I launched Gift Shopper AI, an AI-powered gift recommendation engine. And in 2026, I'm building Garage Insight, a smart garage management tool (still in early development).
